A Forest Stage with History
The Waldbühne Gehren is one of those natural stages still found in Brandenburg — nestled in the forest around Gehren, a district of the municipality of Heideblick in the Dahme-Spreewald district. Wooden benches, an open stage, tall pine trees, proven sound technology: concerts and theater performances have been held here for years. Rock im Wald is the annual musical summer highlight of this stage and is a fixture in the festival calendar of southern Brandenburg.
The Concept: Regional, Intimate, Honest
Unlike the big open-air festivals in Germany, Rock im Wald focuses on a manageable lineup and an intimate atmosphere. Three days, four to six bands, a central Frühschoppen, and a loyal regular audience. The festival is not big enough for VIP areas and not small enough for insider circles — just right for everyone looking for live music in a forest setting without getting lost in a mass festival.
Heideblick — Home in Southern Brandenburg
Heideblick is a comparatively young municipality, formed in 2003 by the merger of several villages. It is located in the southern part of the Dahme-Spreewald district, nestled in a landscape of forests, lakes, and small moors. Those who stay longer should explore the Niederlausitzer Heidelandschaft Nature Park or visit the nearby town of Luckau with its baroque city center.
Three Days of Program
Friday evening opens the festival with bands from the regional scene. Saturday is the most intense day — with bands playing late into the night and DJ sets between concerts. Sunday traditionally concludes with a rock Frühschoppen, combining breakfast, live music, and a relaxed departure. Camping is available on the adjacent grounds — many guests stay for the entire weekend.
