Sondernheim and its Cultural Community

Sondernheim is a district of the city of Germersheim with around 2,000 inhabitants. The village is located between the core city of Germersheim and the railway line to Wörth. Like many Germersheim districts, Sondernheim maintains its own festival culture, supported by associations, the Kulturgemeinde, and committed citizens. The Christkindlmarkt is one of the most important festival dates in the Sondernheim calendar.

Schwester-Quentina-Platz in the center of Sondernheim serves as the festival backdrop. The square is named after a locally significant nun and offers a quiet setting for the market, characterized by the local residents. Stalls, a small stage, standing tables, and Christmas lighting transform the square for the Advent weekend.

Association Stalls and Children's Program

The Sondernheim associations run the market stalls independently. Mulled wine, punch, bratwurst, potato pancakes, sweet baked goods, and small gift items are available at the stands. A children's program with craft activities, stories for the pre-Christmas season, and a visit from St. Nicholas or the Christkind is aimed at the youngest market visitors. The Kulturgemeinde Sondernheim coordinates the program.

3rd Advent Weekend

The market traditionally takes place on the 3rd Advent weekend. This timing – after the central Germersheim Christmas market, which runs on the 1st and 2nd Advent – ensures its own audience and avoids competition. The opening on Saturday at 4 p.m. marks the beginning of the market weekend, which lasts until Sunday evening.
