Tradition since 1658

The Bürgerschützenverein Fürstenau from 1658 looks back on almost four hundred years of club history — one of the oldest marksmen's association traditions in all of Lower Saxony. The Fürstenau marksmen's festival is therefore one of the most significant traditional festivals in the northern Osnabrück region and the adjacent Emsland.

Four Days on the 2nd Weekend of July

The 2026 edition runs from Friday, July 10th, to Monday, July 13th — four days of a full program on the traditional Schützenplatz Fürstenau. This makes the festival one of the more extensive marksmen's festivals in the region and offers ample space for all traditional elements.

Large Shooting Range

The Schützenplatz Fürstenau features a large shooting range, optimally equipped for the bird shooting and competitions for the honor shields. Shooting is not only a tradition but also a sport — and the club meticulously cultivates both aspects.

Classic Marksmen's Festival Program

As is customary at major Bürgerschützenfeste in northwestern Lower Saxony, the festival includes a complete program of traditions: Vigil with drummer's wake-up call, festive evening with dance night, bird shooting, shooting for honor shields, festive parade through Fürstenau with fanfares and marching bands, proclamation of the new royal couple, king's dinner, festive ball, morning pint on the last day, and family day.

Fürstenau — Castle Town

With its historic castle, Fürstenau is one of the most traditional small towns in the northern Osnabrück region. The Fürstenau Castle is one of the most important moated castles in Northern Germany and shapes the town's cityscape. The Bürgerschützenfest, alongside the Medieval Castle Festival, is the second major highlight in the town's annual event calendar.
