Bring your fellow shooter's ID if you are a shooter yourself — club members of other shooting clubs often receive complimentary beer.
A Hundred Years of Schützen Tradition in Duisburg-Marxloh
The Bürger-Schützen-Verein Hamborn-Marxloh 1926 e.V. is celebrating its 100th anniversary from August 14th to 16th, 2026 — a significant milestone for the club, the district, and the Schützenwesen (shooting club tradition) in the Ruhr area. Founded in 1926, the BSV has weathered a century of history: two world wars, structural change, and societal upheaval. Today, the club is one of the most important traditional institutions in Marxloh, actively preserving customs, sports, and community life in the district.
The 100th Anniversary Festival
Three Days of Festivities
The anniversary festival spans three days:
- Friday, August 14th, 2026 — Opening ceremony, 100th-anniversary commemoration, Grand Zapfenstreich (tattoo)
- Saturday, August 15th, 2026 — King's Shoot, festival tent program, Coronation Ball with live band
- Sunday, August 16th, 2026 — Grand parade through Marxloh, closing festivities in the festival tent
Club Grounds on Egonstraße
The festival takes place on the club's own grounds at Egonstraße 10 in Duisburg-Marxloh — the shooting range, clubhouse, and festival area for the tent are all on the same premises. A significant advantage compared to clubs without their own grounds.
Joint Anniversary Year with Neumühl
A special aspect of 2026: The sister club BSV Hamborn-Neumühl 1926 e.V. is celebrating the same anniversary — both clubs were founded in 1926. The clubs have coordinated: Neumühl celebrates its Schützenfest from July 10th to 13th, 2026, and Marxloh from August 14th to 16th, 2026. Both festivals are staged as a joint highlight of the Duisburg Schützen season 2026 — mutual visits by club delegations are a matter of course.
Schützen Tradition in the Ruhr Area
BSV as a “Bürger-Schützen-Verein” (Civilian Shooting Club)
Most shooting clubs in the Ruhr area use the abbreviation BSV — Bürger-Schützen-Verein. These clubs emerged around the turn of the century and in the 1920s as civic social clubs that combined traditional Schützen customs with modern club culture. The BSV Marxloh is one of Duisburg's oldest and most active Bürger-Schützen-Vereine.
Marxloh as a District
Marxloh is one of the northern districts of Duisburg, shaped by the steel industry (the ThyssenKrupp Schwelgern plant is located right next door). Marxloh is now one of Germany's most international districts — the bridal fashion mile on Weseler Straße is internationally renowned. The Schützen tradition keeps the old district culture alive amidst this transformation.
Duisburg-Hamborn as a Schützen Home
Duisburg, with its districts Hamborn-Marxloh and Hamborn-Neumühl, is part of the northwestern Ruhr area (North Rhine-Westphalia) and, with over 500,000 inhabitants, is one of North Rhine-Westphalia's largest cities. Despite the structural changes away from heavy industry, the shooting clubs in the districts remain stable social anchors — they foster district identity and are often the first point of contact for volunteer engagement opportunities.
