Good to Know
August 28–29, 2026 (Fri–Sat). Lineup will be announced in spring 2026. Exact set times and stage setup at brueggen.de.
Brüggen Castle — The Festival Stage
The centerpiece is Brüggen Castle, a historic moated castle in Brüggen on the Lower Rhine (Viersen district). Directly in front of the castle walls, at Burgwall 4, the festival organizer sets up the stage and festival grounds. During the concerts, the castle facades are illuminated in color — a visual highlight that sets the Brüggen Klassiker apart from other Lower Rhine festivals. The grounds are manageable (capacity around 3,000–5,000 visitors), and the proximity to the stage is maintained even in the back rows.
Rock, Medieval, Metal — The Festival Mix
Brüggen Klassiker caters to a specific subgenre spectrum: classic rock bands, Medieval Folk, Folk Metal, Medieval Rock, and Symphonic Metal. The previous edition in 2025 offered a strong mix with Kupfergold (Medieval), Subway To Sally (Folk Metal pioneer), and Tarja Turunen (formerly Nightwish, Opera Metal). The lineup for 2026 will be announced in spring 2026 — until then, tickets are available without knowing the exact program (typical festival practice for regulars).
RADIO BOB! as a Partner
The Brüggen Klassiker is presented in cooperation with the German rock radio station RADIO BOB! — a partnership that is important for booking, promotion, and reach. RADIO BOB! presenters are often present on stage, and bands from the RADIO BOB! rotation shape the lineup. Those who regularly listen to RADIO BOB! will recognize many familiar voices at the Brüggen Klassiker.
Castle Backlighting
A special feature is the castle backlighting: During the concerts, the walls and towers of Brüggen Castle are illuminated with colored light, creating a theatrical-medieval atmosphere — perfectly matching the Folk/Medieval program. The lighting design is adapted from concert to concert and reacts to the respective music. Anyone who has stood in front of blue-lit castle walls during a Subway To Sally concert will not forget the experience.
Lower Rhine Festival with Camping Option
Brüggen is located in the Viersen district, approx. 25 km west of Mönchengladbach and 60 km west of Cologne. Travel is easily feasible from the Lower Rhine, the Ruhr area, Cologne, and even the Netherlands. Camping is possible upon request; many visitors stay overnight in Brüggen or in the surrounding towns of Kempen or Viersen. Tickets from €59 are moderately priced — Brüggen Klassiker is not a cheap village open-air, but also not a €200 large festival price.
