About BRIMBORIUM Horn

Horn Castle, a lowland castle in the Lippisches Land region dating back to the 14th century, transforms into the stage for a historic medieval market once a year: BRIMBORIUM. The event is organized by the agency Bardensprung, which sets up nine historic encampments around the castle for the weekend – Germanic, Saxon, and Nordic. A market, live music (Saltatio Draconum, Duo Sandwich, Forzarello, Rabenfeuer), mock trials, a medieval feast, and over 30 market stalls make the weekend the medieval highlight of the Lippisches region. For the first time in 2026, it will take place in June instead of November – a must-attend event for medieval fans in Ostwestfalen-Lippe.

Horn Castle – A 14th Century Setting

Horn Castle is a lowland castle in the Horn district of Horn-Bad Meinberg, with its core dating back to the 14th century. The Lippisches castle, once the administrative seat of the Counts of Lippe, has largely retained its characteristic layout with a moat, keep, and courtyard. The BRIMBORIUM medieval market takes place annually in the courtyard and on the adjacent meadows – an event that has become established in the medieval scene of Ostwestfalen.

What Awaits You at BRIMBORIUM

Bardensprung – the event agency behind BRIMBORIUM – focuses on a careful mix of market, camp life, and live program.

  • Nine historic encampments around the castle, supported by reenactment groups with Germanic, Saxon, and Nordic attire
  • Over 30 market stalls offering medieval crafts – blacksmithing, glassblowing, leatherwork, medicinal herbs, mead, and bow making
  • Live music with established medieval bands: Saltatio Draconum (bagpipes and drums), Seinerzeit (Lippisches medieval band), Duo Sandwich, Forzarello, Rabenfeuer
  • Mock combat and camp life – sword fighting, archery, daily routines of the historic camps
  • Medieval feast on Saturday evening in the barn – a theatrical performance with a herald, cupbearer, and entertainment
  • Mock trial – staged court hearing with a verdict and "execution" (theater)
  • Fire show at dusk

2026 – First Time in June

A special feature of the 2026 edition: BRIMBORIUM moves from its usual November date to June – more daylight, warmer weather, longer festival time under the open sky. With the dates June 12–14, the festival becomes the early summer medieval market on the OWL calendar.

Horn-Bad Meinberg in the Lippisches Region

Horn-Bad Meinberg is located in the Lippe district, in the Lippe Uplands at the transition to the Teutoburg Forest. With the Externsteine monument, Horn Castle, and Bad Meinberg as a historic spa town, the town with its 17,000 inhabitants has gathered an astonishing amount of world and cultural history in a small area. BRIMBORIUM fits perfectly with this rich cultural-historical heritage – the Middle Ages right at the original site.

BRIMBORIUM Horn — edition 2026

BRIMBORIUM 2026 runs from Friday, June 12 to Sunday, June 14 at Horn Castle – for the first time in a summer slot instead of November. Nine historic encampments, over 30 market stalls, live music with Saltatio Draconum, Seinerzeit, Duo Sandwich, Forzarello, and Rabenfeuer.

The 2026 edition is a premiere in the summer slot – more daylight and longer market hours. The Bardensprung agency builds on the proven concept of previous years: nine encampments on the castle meadows, a market in the courtyard, a stage with established medieval bands, and a dramatic arc spanning the afternoon and evening. The Lippisches medieval band Seinerzeit will present a new piece titled "BRIMBORIUM" in 2026.
