Two weeks of crime culture in over 30 locations – one of Germany's most renowned crime festivals
The Braunschweiger Krimifestival has been an integral part of German crime culture since 2008. Over two weeks, it spreads its approximately 40 events across the entire city – a deliberate concept: crime should not only take place in quiet reading rooms but wherever stories are possible.
The program includes classic readings with nationally and internationally renowned authors, as well as crime scene tours through the city center, live podcasts, crime dinners with staged readings, crime talks with publishers and translators, and themed music evenings that musically accompany literary works.
The festival is organized by Buchhandlung Graff, one of the most important independent bookstores in Lower Saxony. It founded the festival in 2008 and has continuously developed it into an event of supra-regional importance. Over the years, many of the genre's most important voices have visited Braunschweig – from Germany, Scandinavia, Great Britain, the USA, and France.
Throughout the festival, venues include bookstores, libraries, the Staatstheater, coffee houses, bars, and unusual "crime scenes" such as historic buildings or cellar vaults. The changing atmospheres make the crime festival a city exploration in the sign of crime.
The 2026 edition runs for approximately two weeks from Sunday, October 18th, to Sunday, November 1st, 2026. Numerous locations in the city center and in individual districts will be used.
The organizer is Buchhandlung Graff in cooperation with the Staatstheater Braunschweig and other partners. The complete program with authors, venues, and tickets will be published in late summer / early autumn.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the organizer in early autumn. The structure follows the proven key points of previous years:
Various locations in Braunschweig: Buchhandlung Graff, Staatstheater Braunschweig (Krimifestival im Theater), libraries, bars, restaurants, and special locations. Exact addresses vary by event.
Easily accessible by public transport, many venues in the city center are within walking distance. From the main train station, take the tram / bus to the city center.
Tickets are available via Reservix and directly from Buchhandlung Graff. Individual events sell out weeks in advance – early booking is recommended.
Complete program and dates available at graff.de/krimifestival and reservix.de. The festival catalog will be published a few weeks before the start.
