Alfeld's biggest city festival – three days of funfair, Green Mile, flea market, and live music
When Alfeld's city center is transformed for the Stadtfest in September, the historic old town becomes a continuous festival mile for three days. From the market square with the historic Alfeld Town Hall, through the adjacent streets and squares, to the narrow alleys, various festival areas are created, each with its own focus.
The Kirmes (funfair) is the classic amusement park component of the festival: carousels, smaller rides, food stalls, lottery booths, and sweet stalls create a familiar Volksfest (public festival) scene. It is particularly popular with families with children and shapes the cityscape from Friday evening to Sunday evening.
The Green Mile is a special element of the Alfeld Stadtfest: an area specifically dedicated to the themes of nature, gardening, sustainability, and the outdoors. Exhibitors from these sectors present plants, garden furniture, outdoor equipment, regional products, and sustainable consumer goods. In addition to the classic city festival and funfair aspects, the Stadtfest thus provides a thematic focus.
The Alfeld City Youth Ring (SJR) annually sets up a free Children's Play Street: a zone with games, craft activities, hands-on stations, a bouncy castle, and a face-painting corner. Here, the Stadtfest becomes a family fun day, allowing families on a tight budget to experience a full festival day with their children.
The Old Town Flea Market stretches through Alfeld's city center and is one of the largest flea markets in the region. Private individuals and commercial vendors set up stalls along the festival mile, offering vintage fashion, books, vinyl records, collectibles, toys, furniture, and quirky individual items.
Concerts and DJ sets take place on several stages in the city center. The program ranges from local bands from the Alfeld region to cover bands, Schlager artists, and smaller national acts. On Friday and Saturday evenings, the stage programs dominate the later part of the festival day.
Sunday is designated as an Open Shopping Sunday: Alfeld's city center shops open their doors. Fashion, home goods, drugstore items, books, and other sectors are represented, rounding off the festival offerings. For many families from the southern Hildesheim district, the Open Shopping Sunday is an important reason to visit Alfeld's city center.
The Stadtfest is organized by Forum Alfeld Aktiv e. V., the city's marketing and economic development association. Contact: Tel. 05181 703-118.
As in previous years, the Stadtfest is divided into several thematic areas that together shape the festival mile. Forum Alfeld Aktiv coordinates the program with local associations, the SJR, restaurateurs, and showmen.
The exact program will be announced in the summer of 2026 on the city's website and in the local media.
