Volunteer-organized open-air rock festival with 6 bands and DJ for 3,000 visitors – free admission
Gänserock was launched in 2012 by the youth project Algermissen ist BUNT – für Demokratie und Toleranz and has since become a regular fixture in the Algermissen event calendar. The youth project sees the festival as a positive format to celebrate democratic values, diversity, and open coexistence – not through political speeches, but through a well-organized, free open-air event that invites everyone in the community.
The venue is the Freizeitpark An der Alpe in Algermissen – a public park well-suited for festivals of this size. The stage is set up on an open meadow, and the audience spreads out on the adjacent lawn. Food and drink stalls provide beer, soft drinks, and refreshments, creating an atmosphere typical of a classic smaller festival: familiar, relaxed, and focused on the music.
The lineup typically includes six bands and a DJ. The musical spectrum ranges from classic rock and punk to indie and alternative, as well as funk and pop-rock. The bands come from Lower Saxony, Germany, and sometimes from neighboring countries. The exact lineup will be announced by the organizing team in spring 2026.
With around 3,000 visitors, Gänserock is one of the larger open-air festivals in the northern Hildesheim district. The free admission is a conscious decision by the organizing team: the festival should be accessible to everyone, regardless of income or social status. Gänserock is financed by sponsors, patrons, donations, and the proceeds from the refreshment stands.
The festival is organized entirely by volunteers. Setup, artist support, security, stage and technical management, catering, and dismantling are handled by a team of helpers assembled each year. This volunteer base is one of the most remarkable aspects of the festival, making it an example of successful civic engagement.
The name Algermissen ist BUNT – für Demokratie und Toleranz reflects the community's self-image, which has gained national attention in recent years: a clear stance against right-wing extremism, in favor of diversity, and for an open society. Gänserock is the cultural manifestation of this attitude – without political speeches, but through a vibrant, inviting festival format.
As in previous years, the organizing team is putting together a diverse lineup covering various styles of rock music and related genres. The exact 2026 lineup will be announced in spring on the community website and the youth project's social media channels.
Donations, sponsorships, and proceeds from the refreshment stands financially support the festival and make free admission possible for all visitors.
The exact 2026 program will be published by the organizer in spring. The structure follows the proven benchmarks of previous years:
