One night, many museums — explore Braunschweig's collections from 7 PM to midnight
The Braunschweig Museum Night relies on the successful format that has proven itself in many major German cities: with a single combined ticket, visitors can explore a variety of museums in one night. The doors open at 7:00 PM — a time when museums are normally long closed — and remain open until midnight. A shuttle bus or the regular public transport lines connect the locations, and many museums are within walking distance in the city center anyway.
The permanent participants of the Braunschweig Museum Night include the Three State Museums — the Braunschweigisches Landesmuseum, the State Museum of Natural History, and the Landesmuseum Hinter Aegidien — as well as the municipal museum, the renowned Herzog Anton Ulrich Museum with its Old Masters collections, and smaller specialized museums. Each institution puts together its own special night program tailored to the atmosphere of a Museum Night.
The program in the museums is exceptionally diverse: curator-led tours explore current special exhibitions, concerts of various genres fill the collection halls, and performances and readings complement the offerings. Special family programs are aimed at children and teenagers — from treasure hunts through the collections to hands-on workshops. At the State Museum of Natural History, open-air formats in the courtyard complement the program.
With its date at the end of June and the usually pleasant summer weather, the Museum Night has also developed into a city center festival over the years. The surrounding squares are supplemented with food and drink stands and seating areas, and public transport services are increased. Visitors combine their museum visit with dinner in the city center and a late drink — and often discover institutions they would never visit during the day.
The Museum Night 2026 continues the successful format of previous years, making the cultural diversity of the city of Braunschweig tangible in a single summer night.
The exact program for each institution will be published shortly before the event.
