Shooting festival of SSV Borbach 1919 e.V. in Witten's Durchholz district with king's shoot, tombola, and children's program
The Borbacher Schützentag is one of the oldest regular events in Witten's Durchholz/Borbach district. The organizing club SSV Borbach 1919 e.V. – short for "Schützenverein" (shooting club) – was founded in 1919 and has maintained the Rhenish-Westphalian shooting tradition in its district ever since. Unlike large city shooting festivals, the Borbacher Schützentag is a manageable district festival supported by local club life.
The festival traditionally took place in 2026 on Thursday, May 14 (Ascension Day). In doing so, SSV Borbach follows the classic shooting calendar of Westphalia, where the Father's Day/Ascension weekend is the preferred date for many club shooting festivals.
The 2026 edition has already taken place. The king's shoot yielded the following results:
The royal couple will represent the club until the 2027 event.
The festival day follows the proven Westphalian shooting festival format:
SSV Borbach 1919 is more than just a shooting festival organizer. Training sessions take place regularly:
The club is a member of the Schützenkreis Witten (Witten Shooting Association) and the Westfälischer Schützenbund (Westphalian Shooting Federation).
The Witten district of Durchholz with the locality of Borbach is located in the south of Witten, bordering the Ardey Hills. With historically grown farms, forests, and hiking trails, the area is more "village" than city – although administratively part of the 95,000-inhabitant city of Witten. The shooting festival reflects this rural character.
The Schützenkreis Witten comprises around 15 clubs that coordinate their dates among themselves. The Borbacher Schützentag is on the official calendar (schuetzenkreis-witten.de) and is one of the earliest festivals of the season.
The 2026 edition was successful, following the classic Westphalian shooting festival format. Daniel Blüow and Carina Stoib reign over SSV Borbach until the 2027 Schützentag. The club is integrated into the Witten Shooting Association and enjoys high acceptance in the Durchholz district.

Thursday, May 14, 2026 (Ascension Day). Festival grounds open in the morning, king's shoot in the afternoon, coronation ball in the evening.
Anyone wanting to experience authentic Westphalian shooting club life should come in the afternoon for the king's shoot – the suspense during the bird shoot, the collective cheering, and the moment of proclamation are among the most fascinating aspects of the festival. Contact: ssvborbach.de.
