Three days of Eifel Fastnacht in Bollendorf on the Sauer river with a grand session and Shrove Tuesday parade
The Carnival in Bollendorf will span ten days in 2026, culminating in the traditional Foosdensdisch parade on Shrove Tuesday, February 17th. The Bollendorf Carnival Club invites you to the grand Prunksitzung (grand session) with speeches, guards, and show dances on February 7th in the multi-purpose hall, followed by the children's session on February 8th. The highlight is the Shrove Tuesday parade, with floats, walking groups, and music bands winding through the streets of the picturesque Sauer town, starting at 2:33 PM.
Bollendorf, located directly on the German-Luxembourg border, combines Eifel Fastnacht tradition with a relaxed Sauer atmosphere during Carnival — a picture-book location for Eifel Carnival.
Bollendorf is situated directly on the Sauer river, the border river with Luxembourg, and combines the Catholic Fastnacht tradition of the Südeifel with a cross-border flair. The Bollendorf Carnival Club is one of the most active clubs in the Südeifel collective municipality and organizes a diverse session program each year.
The grand Prunksitzung on Saturday, February 7th, 2026, is the social highlight of the season. In the Bollendorf multi-purpose hall, Carnival enthusiasts from the Südeifel Nature Park gather at 6:33 PM and 8:11 PM for speeches (Büttenreden), guard and show dance performances, solo acts, and music. The club's dance guards and those from friendly carnival clubs will perform, as will speakers from across the region.
On Sunday, February 8th, the younger generation takes center stage: The children's session at 1:33 PM and 2:33 PM offers a program for families with little jesters. The program includes dance performances by the children's guards, a child-friendly tombola, and group games.
The traditional Foosdensdisch parade on Shrove Tuesday, February 17th, 2026, is a special event. The Eifel dialect name for Shrove Tuesday refers to the unbroken tradition of concluding Carnival in Bollendorf only on Shrove Tuesday with the grand parade. At 2:33 PM, the procession with floats, walking groups, music bands, and costumed participants moves through the village streets. Afterwards, the village celebrates the Carnival finale in the festival tent and local establishments.
Despite the internationality of the border region, Bollendorf Carnival remains down-to-earth: Speeches in Eifel dialect, local political allusions, self-built floats, and a strong sense of community characterize the events.
The Bollendorf Carnival 2026 kicks off on February 7th with the grand Prunksitzung in the multi-purpose hall and concludes on February 17th with the Foosdensdisch parade through the village streets. Three key events — the Prunksitzung, the children's session, and the Shrove Tuesday parade — form the cornerstones of a Carnival week that immerses the entire village in festive spirit. The Bollendorf Carnival Club welcomes guests from the entire Eifelkreis Bitburg-Prüm and neighboring Luxembourg.
The 2026 Bollendorf session combines indoor events with the traditional Shrove Tuesday parade. While other Eifel towns prefer Rose Monday, Bollendorf sticks to Foosdensdisch — the Eifel term for Shrove Tuesday. This makes the Bollendorf parade a late highlight of the Carnival week.
The exact 2026 program will be published by the organizer in January. The structure follows the proven cornerstones of previous years:
