Market during the blooming season of the red Weinbergpfirsich with jams, liqueurs, and pralines from a Mosel specialty
The Red Weinbergpfirsich – often called Moselweinbergpfirsich along the Mosel – is an old peach variety that has been growing for centuries in the Mosel vineyards between the rows of vines. The tradition likely dates back to the Romans, who brought the peach tree, a heat-loving crop, to the northern regions of their provinces. The fruit has characteristic features: dark red flesh, smaller size than commercial peaches, intensely aromatic, slightly tart flavor, and a certain individuality that makes it unsuitable for industrial cultivation. Precisely because of this, it is now an insider tip and a symbol of regional identity.
The Blossom Market celebrates the blooming of the trees in April – a spectacle that covers the steep Mosel slopes above Cochem with countless clouds of pink blossoms. On the Endertplatz, regional producers present the diversity of products created from past harvests over two days: jams in various stages of ripeness, liqueurs from fine aperitifs to robust digestifs, pralines with peach jelly centers, brandies, syrups for summer cocktails, teas, mustard variations, cosmetic products like creams and soaps, even peach beer from a regional brewery.
Accompanying this, local organizers offer guided hikes through the blooming vineyards. Those lucky enough may arrive at the peak of the bloom and see the pink clouds against the backdrop of the Reichsburg castle. The tours are led by vintners or members of the Mosel Weinberg Pfirsich association, who can share a great deal about the history, cultivation, and processing of the fruit. The Blossom Market is part of a double event: in September, the Harvest Market follows, where the harvested fruits themselves and all freshly processed products are sold. The market is open from 11 am to 5 pm on both days.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the city of Cochem in the spring. The structure will follow the proven key points of previous years: market opening at 11 am on both days, product presentations by approximately fifteen to twenty producers, several guided hikes into the vineyards in the presence of vintners or representatives of the Mosel Weinberg Pfirsich association, and a small culinary accompanying program with tastings and talks.
