The Blossom Town in the Harz Foothills Celebrates Itself

Blankenburg bears the epithet Blossom Town on the Harz and turns this designation into a three-day festival once a year. The expansive town park becomes the focal point: a main stage in the pavilion, traders along the paths, food trucks between the trees, a dedicated children's area, and — as a special feature — a medieval market that opens early Friday. The festival is free and deliberately aimed at locals and Harz visitors alike.

Blankenburg is located in the Harz district in the state of Saxony-Anhalt, on the northern edge of the Harz Mountains. The Great Castle towers over the town, while the Baroque Gardens and the Little Castle are directly opposite the festival grounds. A town festival could hardly ask for a better stage. Ideally, you'll combine your festival visit with a hike to the Teufelsmauer, an excursion to Thale, or a stroll through the old town with its half-timbered houses.
