Youth Castle Above the Main
Rothenfels Castle towers above the town of Rothenfels on the Main – with just over 1,000 inhabitants, it is Bavaria's smallest town – in the Main-Spessart district. Acquired in 1919 by the Catholic youth movement Quickborn, the castle is today supported by the "Association of Friends of Burg Rothenfels e.V." independently of state and church structures.
Throughout the year, the castle offers a dense educational and conference program: conferences on religious, social, and artistic topics, concerts, dance and music courses, educational weeks, and the "Junge Tagungen" (Young People's Conferences), which are organized by young people for their peers. Liturgy, music, dance, and dialogue across generations and denominations shape the profile.
Highlights Throughout the Year
The regular program includes the major Whitsun Conference, conferences on Renaissance dance and music, the August workshop week of Quickborn, and the New Year's Eve conference as the movement's central annual meeting. In addition, concerts and seminars enrich the cultural life of the region far beyond Rothenfels.
Conferences Burg Rothenfels — edition 2026
The year 2026 offers a continuous program of conferences, concerts, and courses at Rothenfels Castle. The outstanding event is the Rothenfels Whitsun Conference from May 22 to 25, 2026, around the Whitsun holiday – one of the castle's most traditional events. In autumn, a conference on Renaissance dance and music will take place, among other events. Throughout the year, the "Junge Tagungen" (Young People's Conferences), the August workshop week of Quickborn, concerts, and seminars complement the educational program. The complete program will be published in the castle's educational booklet.
