53rd edition of Bermatingen's largest village festival — three days of wine festival at the Margravial Baden estate, with wine hike and reception of the Lake Constance Wine Princess
The Bermatingen Wine Festival is celebrating its 53rd edition in 2026 and has been the largest festival in the municipality of Bermatingen (Bodenseekreis, Baden-Württemberg) for over half a century. The organizer is the Margravial Baden Winery — a winemaking family whose tradition dates back over 900 years and which has managed the Bermatingen winery for generations. The premises at Jägerstraße 4 will be completely repurposed for the festival weekend: the cellars will become festival halls, the courtyard will be the festival area, and the surrounding vineyards will serve as a hiking area on Saturday.
Bermatingen is located about 8 km northeast of Überlingen, in the hinterland of Lake Constance at an altitude of around 480 meters. This slight elevation gives the Bermatingen wines their characteristic style — fresher and more mineralic than wines from the immediate lakeshore. The range of the Margravial Baden Winery covers the entire Lake Constance spectrum: Müller-Thurgau, Pinot Noir, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Sekt — the diversity of regional wines will be served in a wide selection at the festival.
The program follows a proven choreography. Friday opens at 6 p.m. with wine service, and a live band plays from 7 p.m. Saturday is the main festival day: the wine hike through the vineyards starts at 2 p.m. (registration from August via bermatingen.de), regular festival operations begin at 5 p.m., the Lake Constance Wine Princess is received with the local choir at 6 p.m., and dancing and live music start at 8 p.m. Sunday begins at 10 a.m. with the ecumenical service, followed by brunch, and coffee and cake from 2 p.m.
Bermatingen, with about 3,800 inhabitants, lies between Salem (Salem Monkey Mountain, Salem Castle) and Markdorf, nestled in a gentle hilly landscape with scattered orchards and vineyards. The connection of the winery to the House of Baden is part of the local identity — the Margrave was historically the feudal lord, and the winery was the economic basis. The wine festival is therefore not only a gastronomic event but also a cultural ritual that annually re-enacts the centuries-old connection between the village and the Margrave.
The 53rd edition follows the proven choreography of three days with clearly defined accents. Friday starts as a quiet opening — the winery's festival rooms open from 6 p.m., and the main stage plays live from 7 p.m. Saturday becomes the main festival day with the wine hike as an unusual format (a guided tour through the Bermatingen vineyards with tastings at various stations), followed by the traditional reception of the Lake Constance Wine Princess by the local choir.
Free admission. Wines and food directly at the stands — glass of Bermatingen wine approx. €4–6, wine hike with tastings depending on the package (registration required).
By train to Markdorf (~5 km) or Überlingen-Therme (~10 km), then by bus or taxi to Bermatingen. By car via the B 33 (Friedrichshafen–Stockach), exit Markdorf, then via the L 205. Parking available at the winery and on the meadows at the edge of the village.
