Celebrating at 1090 meters by the mountain lake
The Spitzingsee is located at an altitude of around 1090 meters in the Schliersee mountains — a spectacular setting for one of Upper Bavaria's most atmospheric summer festivals. The Bergseefest is organized by the Spitzingsee mountain community (Berggemeinschaft Spitzingsee e.V.) together with the municipality of Schliersee and takes place directly on the lakeshore. For two days, the mountain lake becomes a meeting point for locals and guests.
Local hosts and clubs provide the catering: grilled fish, roast chicken, sausages, Kaiserschmarrn, and homemade cakes, along with beer from Bräu z'Loh, wine, and non-alcoholic drinks. The program includes a large tombola with 1000 tickets and prizes such as mountain bikes and e-scooters, a bike race on Friday evening, and bull riding on both days.
The highlight is the grand finale fireworks on Saturday evening after dark. Over the dark mountain lake and against the mountain backdrop, it unfolds its special effect — the moment many visitors eagerly await all evening. Afterwards, the Alte Spinnradl opens exclusively for the after-party.
The Spitzingsee belongs to the municipality of Schliersee in the Miesbach district in the state of Bavaria, right in the heart of the Tegernsee-Schliersee Alpine region. As one of Bavaria's highest lakes, it is a popular destination for hikers and winter sports enthusiasts — during the Bergseefest, it transforms into the grand festival stage for the mountain community once a summer.
The Bergseefest traditionally takes place on an August weekend (Friday and Saturday, no program on Sunday). The exact date for 2026 will be announced by the Spitzingsee mountain community (Berggemeinschaft Spitzingsee e.V.) on their event page; the August date shown here is a placeholder until the official announcement.
The schedule follows the proven pattern: bike race on Friday evening, bull riding on both days, a large tombola with 1000 tickets, catering by hosts and clubs, and the grand finale fireworks on Saturday evening after dark. Afterwards, an after-party at the Alte Spinnradl. Shuttle bus at 10 PM to Fischhausen-Neuhaus station.
Current date and program: spitzingsee-berggemeinschaft.com.
By train (RB55) to Fischhausen-Neuhaus station, then take MVV bus line 362 to Spitzingsee. Due to limited parking at the lake, traveling by public transport is strongly recommended. On both festival days, a shuttle bus runs to Fischhausen-Neuhaus station at 10 PM.
Free admission. Food and drinks available from local hosts and clubs. Tombola tickets €5.
The level crossing in Neuhaus may be temporarily closed during arrival — check current information in advance.
