About Eulenklapp Eulenbis

The Bergfest on the Eulenkopf is a charming mix of a West Palatinate mountain festival and a curious sporting event. High above the Reichswald, at the Eulenkopfturm in the Eulenbis district, hikers, families, and folding bike enthusiasts meet for a cheerful weekend at Pentecost. The highlight is the 10th Folding Bike Race “Eulenklapp bis nuff,” where participants exclusively use original folding bikes from the 1970s and 1980s – 20-inch wheels without gears – to conquer the 3.5-kilometer route from the valley up to the Eulenkopfturm. The race is a sporting homage to a piece of German bicycle history and attracts numerous spectators to the Palatinate Forest every year.

The Bergfest on the Eulenkopf with Folding Bike Race is one of the most original sports and folk festivals in the West Palatinate. From May 24th to 25th, 2026, the Eulenkopfverein Eulenbis invites you to the Bergfest at the Eulenkopfturm, combining sporting competition and a relaxed club festival on the mountain.

Eulenkopf and Eulenkopfturm

The Eulenkopf is a distinctive elevation in the Palatinate Forest near Eulenbis, a district of the municipality Weilerbach in the Kaiserslautern district. The Eulenkopfturm is a popular viewpoint offering a wide view over the West Palatinate, the Lautertal valley, and, in clear weather, as far as the Saarland. The festival grounds of the Bergfest are located around the tower.

Bergfest at the Eulenkopfturm

The Bergfest opens at 11 AM with catering, live music, and club stands. Palatinate classics such as Bratwurst, Leberknödel, Saumagen, fries, and Schmalzgebäck (lard pastry) are on the menu; regional beers, soft drinks, and Palatinate wine are available at the bar. Families benefit from a children's program and the relaxed atmosphere at the edge of the forest.

10th Eulenklapp bis nuff

The sporting highlight is the Folding Bike Race “Eulenklapp bis nuff,” which takes place for the 10th time in 2026. The rules are strict: only original folding bikes from the 1970s and 1980s with 20-inch wheels and no gears are allowed. Participants compete in several classes, battling their way up the approximately 3.5-kilometer course from the valley to the Eulenkopfturm. The race is organized by TV Rodenbach in cooperation with the Eulenkopfverein and is a humorous tribute to a piece of West German everyday history.

Atmosphere in the Palatinate Forest

The Bergfest has become a hidden gem in the West Palatinate event calendar: hikers combine the tour with a stop for refreshments, families hike from Eulenbis to the tower, and folding bike enthusiasts travel from further afield. A charming mix of club life, sports, and Palatinate Forest romance.

Eulenklapp Eulenbis — edition 2026

The Bergfest on the Eulenkopf 2026 will take place on Sunday, May 24th, and Monday, May 25th, at the Eulenkopfturm in Eulenbis. The highlight is the 10th Folding Bike Race “Eulenklapp bis nuff” on Sunday afternoon – 3.5 km uphill, exclusively with folding bikes from the 70s/80s with 20-inch wheels without gears. The organizers are the Eulenkopfverein Eulenbis and TV Rodenbach.

The 2026 anniversary edition marks the tenth folding bike race on the Eulenkopf. The Bergfest and the uphill sporting race combine to create a West Palatinate Pentecost classic with quirky charm.
