100 Years of Bauhaus in Dessau — The Anniversary Festival

The Bauhausfest has been part of the Bauhaus DNA since the 1920s. Even during the Bauhaus era, the famous Bauhaus Festivals — the White Festival, the Triadic Ballet, the Lamp Festival — were legendary experimental workshops where architecture, dance, fashion, music, and visual arts came together. In 2026, the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Bauhaus's move from Weimar to Dessau — and will celebrate with a three-day festival under the motto "Salto | Takt | Form" (English: Flip | Beat | Shape).

The venues are the Bauhaus building by Walter Gropius (now a UNESCO World Heritage site), the Bauhaus Museum Dessau, and the urban area. From September 4 to 6, 2026, the disciplines that shaped the Bauhaus will merge: dance, circus, performance, visual arts, architecture, design, music. A parade through the city is also planned — a format that picks up on the Bauhaus festivals of the 1920s.

Parallel: Exhibition "Gong | Bang | Whistle"

Parallel to the Bauhausfest, the new exhibition "Gong | Bang | Whistle" will open on September 5, 2026, in the Bauhaus Museum Dessau. It thematically connects to the festival motto and focuses on sound, rhythm, and movement — themes that already occupied Oskar Schlemmer's Bauhaus stage workshop.

Dessau-Roßlau, the Bauhaus, and the State

Dessau-Roßlau is the third historical Bauhaus location, alongside Weimar and Berlin. Here, Walter Gropius built the iconic Bauhaus building in 1925/26, and here the Masters' Houses of Kandinsky, Klee, Moholy-Nagy, and others were created. The state of Saxony-Anhalt markets its UNESCO World Heritage bundle of Bauhaus, Wörlitz Park, and Luther Sites as the WelterbeRegion Anhalt-Dessau-Wittenberg. The Bauhausfest 2026 is one of the main events in the 2025/2026 anniversary year.
