The Historic Nußdorf Farmhouse

The historic Nußdorf farmhouse is an architectural gem and one of the most important sites commemorating the rural life of the Southern Palatinate before industrialization. Preserved and maintained by the local association, it serves as an exhibition space and occasional event venue. The Bauernhausfest is the central annual event at the house.

Dampfknepp – The Palatinate Tradition

The highlight of the festival is Dampfknepp – also called "Dampfknödel," related to Dampfnudeln. These are potato dumplings cooked in a steam pot and traditionally served in the Southern Palatinate with wine or with roast accompaniments, sauerkraut, or apple sauce. The dish is deeply rooted in Palatinate everyday cuisine and is now primarily enjoyed on festive occasions.

Village Conviviality

The Bauernhausfest is driven by volunteer work. Members of the Nußdorf local associations prepare the Dampfknepp, organize the drinks service, and handle setup and dismantling. The festival is small in scale, intense in atmosphere, and aimed at locals as well as wine and cultural travelers who want to experience authentic Palatinate village life.

Nestled in the Nußdorf Summer

Nußdorf has a packed festival calendar in the summer: after the large wine festival (Weinkerwe) at the end of July, the Bauernhausfest follows at the end of August, and finally, the Night of Open Cellars on October 2. The Bauernhausfest holds its place as a quieter late summer event with a culinary focus.
