Playful Children's Day on the Castle Island
June 1st is Children's Day in many countries – and at the historically significant Mirow Castle, it's the occasion for an event that puts children center stage. The Baroque Olympiad uses the ambiance of the baroque castle ensemble to stage competitions, courtly games, and creative stations centered around the 18th century – the era when Mirow Castle was the residence of the Dukes of Mecklenburg-Strelitz.
The event concept combines sporty, playful competitions with historical allusions. Stations might include: variants of skittles or bocce, participatory courtly round dances, small riding games (on hobby horses), archery, feather-wisping, or costume stations. Specific stations and program elements will be announced by the castle in advance.
The Baroque Olympiad is part of the cultural education program of the State Palaces, Gardens, and Art Collections of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. It follows an educational approach that conveys history not as a lecture, but as an experience – a particularly child-friendly way to engage with courtly culture. Accompanying parents and grandparents can experience the castle from a different, often more humorous, perspective.
