Traditional three-day marksmen's festival of the Hammelwarden Marksmen's Association in the Hammelwarden district of the town of Brake (Unterweser)
The Schützenfest Hammelwarden is one of the annual highlights in the festival calendar of the Hammelwarden district, which has belonged to the town of Brake (Unterweser) since the administrative reform. The organizer is the Schützenverein Hammelwarden, which significantly shapes the club life of the district. The three-day festival follows the classic Lower Saxony-Oldenburg marksmen's traditions with assembly, king's shooting, king's dinner, and dance evening.
The marksmen's festival traditionally begins on Thursday evening with the opening of the festival tent and a first dance evening for younger generations or the entire festival community — depending on the program design by the club board. Friday is dedicated to the king's shooting and the proclamation of the king. Saturday features the grand festive parade through Hammelwarden with a marching band, friendly clubs, and decorated floats.
At the center of every marksmen's festival is the king's shooting, where the new marksmen's king is determined among the eligible members. With the proclamation, the new royal court is introduced and invited to the joint king's dinner in the festival tent. Speeches, honors, and musical contributions characterize the festive ceremony.
In the evenings, a live band takes over the festival tent — dance evenings with Schlager and party music offer the festival community a dance floor. A family program with games, children's king's shooting, and catering rounds off the festival day, making the Schützenfest an event for all age groups.
Access to the festival grounds and most program points is free. Dance evening tickets and refreshments in the festival tent are paid for on-site. The festival is confirmed in the Wesermarsch Marksmen's Association calendar for June 18 to 20, 2026.
With the Schützenfest 2026, the Schützenverein Hammelwarden continues its festival tradition. The exact program and times will be communicated by the club board in early summer in the club newsletter and via the Wesermarsch Marksmen's Association.
The three-day festival concept with assembly, king's shooting, and dance evenings has been established in the district for decades and is part of the village identity experience.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the organizer in early summer. The structure follows the proven key points of previous years:
