Student Culture at Augustinerbach
The Augustinerbachfest is one of Aachen's most beautiful summer events: a student-oriented open-air street festival that transforms the charmingly tiny Augustinerbach — a narrow, old alley in the heart of Aachen's city center, right by the Cathedral and Market Square — into a stage, food court, and hangout zone. The next edition is planned for Saturday, July 11, 2026, starting at 1:00 PM.
Organized by the RWTH Community
The event is organized by students from RWTH Aachen in a multidisciplinary network. The following student councils and university groups are involved:
- Electrical Engineering
- Philosophy
- Communication Science
- Mathematics
- Physics
- Computer Science
- Education
- University Radio (Aachen Student Radio)
Program: Relaxed Atmosphere and Interactive Activities
The program is intentionally accessible and participatory:
- Live Music: Solo artists, student bands, regional acts
- DJ Sets: University radio DJs and guest DJs from the Aachen scene
- Clothing Swap: Bring instead of buy — sustainable fashion action
- Duck Race: Classic fun competition on the small stream (plastic ducks for a donation)
- Participatory Art Installations: Interactive walls, embroidery actions, wall mosaics
- Food and Drinks from clubs and cocktail bars
Aachen — University City at the Dreiländereck
Aachen, with around 250,000 inhabitants, is one of Germany's most important university cities — RWTH Aachen, with over 40,000 students, is the largest technical university in Germany. Aachen is located in the far west of North Rhine-Westphalia, directly on the Dreiländereck (Three-Country Corner) of Germany, Belgium, and the Netherlands, and is a UNESCO World Heritage site (Aachen Cathedral — Coronation Church of Charlemagne). The Augustinerbachfest is an expression of the youthful, cosmopolitan student culture that shapes the city.
Location: Augustinerbach
The Augustinerbach is a narrow street/alley in Aachen's city center, named after the former Augustinian monastery. Paved, quiet location, ideal for a small-scale, intimate neighborhood festival with stage setup in the middle and stalls along the building fronts.
