Local Festival on Arzberg's Kirchberg
The Arzberger Bergfest is one of the most important events in the annual town life of the Upper Franconian small town of Arzberg (Wunsiedel district in the Fichtelgebirge, Bavaria). The venue is the Dr.-Fritz-Singer-Park on the Kirchberg – a slightly elevated park with a view over the town. The name "Bergfest" (mountain festival) refers to this location and follows a long tradition: clubs, showmen, and the citizens organize a local festival for a weekend with catering, music, and conviviality.
Program and Bands
The festival Saturday starts at 5 p.m. Bands from the region play on the stage in the park, with repertoires ranging from Upper Franconian folk music, Schlager, and Fichtelgebirge-influenced pop and cover band music. In 2026, Randlbaihm – a well-known Upper Franconian dialect and folk music band – and the Fichtelgebirgs Allstars are on the program. Showmen provide children's rides, and clubs offer food and drinks at the stalls with Franconian specialties.
Club Life and Cohesion
The Bergfest is also a testament to Upper Franconian club cohesion: many Arzberg clubs help with setup and dismantling, run catering stalls, and present their own club life. The local press regularly describes the Bergfest as a "sign of cohesion in the town" – an image that resonates particularly well in a small town of around 5,000 inhabitants.
Arzberg and the Fichtelgebirge
Arzberg is located in the Sechsämterland in the eastern Fichtelgebirge, near the Czech border. The town is historically shaped by porcelain manufactories ("Arzberg Porzellan" is world-famous) and mining. The Bergfest brings together town tradition, club life, and Fichtelgebirge romance – a typical local festival, like those found in many places in northern Bavaria, but with a particularly strong sense of identity in Arzberg.
Free Admission and Family-Friendly
Admission to the Bergfest is free. Food and drinks are sold at the club stalls at typical festival prices. Families are welcome; the festival grounds in the Dr.-Fritz-Singer-Park are easily accessible on foot. The event is organized by the town of Arzberg in cooperation with local clubs.
