A Symphony of Water, Light, and Music in the Castle Park
Aqua Sonata launched in 2025 as the first open-air festival in the Schloss Vietgest castle park — a Baroque ensemble in the Mecklenburg Switzerland region, which castle owner Miriam Hager has operated as a cultural venue since 2019. The event partner is the regional beverage manufacturer Güstrower Schlossquell. The festival combines classical singing with an elaborate water and light choreography.
The focus is on soprano Stella Motina. She sings classical arias, songs, and jazz classics — from "Summertime" from "Porgy & Bess" and "La Habanera" from "Carmen" to excerpts from Dvořák's "Rusalka." Her voice is accompanied by a harmonious choreography of the "Flames of Water" show, enhanced by fire and color effects in the castle pond.
A conscious decision was made to forgo fixed seating: visitors stroll through the castle park, experiencing the production from ever-new perspectives. The park itself — with its pond, castle facade, and old trees — becomes part of the performance.
Schloss Vietgest is located in the Vietgest district of the municipality of Lalendorf, south of Güstrow in the Rostock district. With its Steinway grand piano and exceptional room acoustics, the castle is considered one of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern's most important private cultural addresses and will also be a venue for the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Festival in 2026 for the first time.
On August 29, 2026, the Schloss Vietgest castle park will once again transform into the stage for Aqua Sonata. Soprano Stella Motina will perform classical arias, songs, and jazz classics — including "Summertime" from "Porgy & Bess," "La Habanera" from "Carmen," and excerpts from Dvořák's "Rusalka" — accompanied by the "Flames of Water" water, light, and fire choreography in the castle pond. As with the premiere, the second edition dispenses with fixed seating: visitors stroll through the park and experience the festival from ever-new perspectives.
