Anniversary at the Gateway to the National Park — Marathon in a Team
The AOK-Ostsee StaffelMarathon was launched in 2007 and has since become one of the most distinctive running events on the southern Baltic Sea coast. Unlike a classic marathon, it is held in a relay format: teams of several runners share the 42.195 km distance — each runner completes the number of laps that suits them on the 5.22 km circuit. This makes the event attractive for amateur runners, family teams, and companies.
The circuit is officially measured and runs through the typical landscape of the Baltic Sea resort of Dierhagen: sections of beach, Bodden shores, forest, and fields. The start and finish are located on the central event meadow in Dierhagen. The atmosphere along the course is friendly — locals and holidaymakers cheer from the sidelines, and refreshment points line the route.
Dierhagen is situated on the west side of the Fischland-Darß-Zingst peninsula, at the transition to the mainland, in the Vorpommern-Rügen district (Mecklenburg-Vorpommern). With the Saaler Bodden to the south and the Baltic Sea to the north, the Baltic Sea resort is the gateway to the Vorpommersche Boddenlandschaft National Park — one of the most important protected areas on the Baltic Sea. The accompanying nature experience program for the run highlights this setting.
The anniversary edition marks the 20th year of the event since its inception in 2007. The proven relay format remains unchanged: teams of runners share the marathon distance of 42.195 km on the precisely measured 5.22 km circuit. The start and finish are located on the central event meadow in Dierhagen.
The course leads through the typical coastal and Bodden landscape of the Baltic Sea resort. Refreshment points line the route, and at the start and finish, there is a festival area with catering, award ceremonies, and accompanying programs. A nature experience program rounds off the weekend for accompanying families.
