Village festival on the edge of the Trinity Pilgrimage to Hülfensberg with the Luttertaler
The Angerfest Geismar is the traditional village event in Geismar in Eichsfeld, which takes place every year on the edge of the Trinity Pilgrimage to Hülfensberg. On Sunday, June 14, 2026, from 3 PM, the Geismar village green (Anger) transforms into an open-air festival meadow — embedded in one of the oldest pilgrimage traditions of the Catholic Eichsfeld.
The Hülfensberg above Geismar has been an important pilgrimage site for the Catholic Eichsfeld since the Middle Ages. The Pilgrimage Church of St. Salvator on the summit attracts numerous pilgrims from the entire Eichsfeld region and beyond for the Trinity Pilgrimage (Trinitatis, in June). The Angerfest traditionally follows this pilgrimage — when the pilgrims return from the mountain, the gathering with music, food, and drink begins in the village.
The program opens with music by the Luttertaler — a regional music band from the Eichsfeld Luttertal area, who kick off the festive afternoon with traditional Eichsfeld folk music. Further program points follow in the afternoon: food stalls, drinks, a children's program, and social gathering of Geismar citizens and pilgrimage guests.
The municipality of Geismar (around 1,100 inhabitants) is located in the district of Eichsfeld in northwestern Thuringia. The Eichsfeld is a cultural-historical peculiarity: a Catholic enclave within the predominantly Protestant Central German region. This special confessional status has resulted in a pronounced tradition of pilgrimages and folk piety — noticeable in pilgrimage churches like St. Salvator on Hülfensberg, in the liturgical calendar, and in village festivals like the Angerfest, which combine religious tradition and village community.
The 2026 edition falls on Trinity Sunday (June 14) — the traditional date of the Trinity Pilgrimage to Hülfensberg. From 3 PM, the music of the Luttertaler opens the festival on the Geismar village green. Pilgrims who ascended to the St. Salvator Pilgrimage Church in the morning and early afternoon will then transition into the festive atmosphere of the Angerfest.
Free admission. Food and drinks at festival prices from club stands.
