When the District's Fire Brigades Meet

The Amt Arensharde is located in the Schleswig-Flensburg district and comprises several rural communities between Schleswig and Husum, including Schuby, Treia, Hollingstedt, and Lürschau. In this classic North German administrative unit, the Volunteer Fire Brigades – the voluntary backbone of the local fire protection and disaster relief structure – organize the Amtsfeuerwehrtag once a year. During the day, the individual fire brigades and their Youth Fire Brigades compete against each other in sporting competitions: hose laying, pump course, obstacle run, rescue exercises. The Fire Brigade Ball as a Finale

The day concludes with the Fire Brigade Ball in the marquee or hall: dance music, shared meals, speeches, honors for long-serving brigade members. The ball is not only a social event but also a social bond: contacts are made between the brigades, and the solidarity that counts in real emergencies is fostered.
