Stapelholm and the Eider

The municipality of Stapel is located in the district of Schleswig-Flensburg in the state of Schleswig-Holstein, in the middle of the scenically unique Stapelholm region — a peninsula-like landscape framed by the Eider and Treene rivers. The municipality comprises two districts, Süderstapel and Norderstapel, which originated as historical settlements along the Eider. The village festival is traditionally held on the village square in Süderstapel on Breite Straße.

The village festival follows the classic pattern of North German summer festivals:

• Coffee and cake — homemade cakes by the Stapelholm rural women's association (Landfrauen)

What makes the Stapel village festival special is its location: The Eider, one of Schleswig-Holstein's largest rivers, shapes the landscape. Those who combine the village festival with a walk along the Eider dike or a trip to neighboring Friedrichstadt (the "Little Amsterdam" of the canal city) will experience one of Schleswig-Holstein's most original corners.

A volunteer festival

The organizer is the municipality of Stapel itself, supported by the voluntary commitment of the clubs, rural women's associations, and village residents. Admission is free. Those who want to experience authentic Stapelholm — far from the tourist crowds on the North Sea and the Schlei — will find exactly that at the Dorffest Stapel.
