Grand Carnival Parade for Children and Youths in the Volkerstadt
The Alzeyer Kinder- und Jugendfastnachtsumzug is a distinct tradition in Alzey's carnival calendar. While the "main" carnival parade on Sunday reaches the entire audience, the children's parade on Altweiberdonnerstag is explicitly dedicated to children and youths.
With 1,200 to 1,300 participants, the children's parade is also impressive in terms of numbers. School classes, kindergarten groups, youth departments of carnival societies, sports clubs, and scout groups march in costume through the city center – each group with its own theme, own costumes, and own musical contributions.
The long-standing organizational leadership is in the hands of Karl-Heinz „Kalli” Gauch, an Alzey carnival institution. His commitment and experience ensure that the parade runs smoothly year after year and remains an unforgettable experience for the children.
Assembly from 9:45 AM in Ostdeutsche Straße, start at 10:11 AM. The route leads through Ostdeutsche Straße, Klosterstraße, Antoniterstraße, and Schlossgasse to the Wall and then to the Zentrum-Parkplatz. A manageable route that is easy for children to manage and at the same time leads through the most beautiful parts of the old town.
Immediately afterwards, the Narrenzelt – traditionally set up in the Ostdeutsche Straße parking lot – invites you to dance, music, and celebrate together. This gives the children the opportunity to fully express their carnival energy.
The Alzeyer Children's Parade 2026 takes place on Thursday, February 12. Assembly from 9:45 AM, start at 10:11 AM in Ostdeutsche Straße. Leadership: Karl-Heinz „Kalli” Gauch.
