Open-air flea market between the Cathedral and City Hall — four Sunday dates in 2026 on the Katschhof
There aren't many flea markets held between a UNESCO World Heritage site and a 14th-century City Hall. The Aachen Old Town Flea Market is one of them: an open-air flea market on the Katschhof, the historic square connecting the Palace of Charlemagne and Aachen Cathedral with the City Hall. As you browse among vintage furniture, old books, toys, and jewelry, you have the history of the Imperial City at your back and the spire of the Cathedral in your sights.
Unlike most flea markets, the Old Town Flea Market isn't a weekly event but a seasonal one — four times a year, always on a Sunday from 11 AM to 6 PM:
This makes the market a reliable fixture in Aachen's annual calendar — for locals and day-trippers from Cologne, Liège, or Maastricht alike.
The range of goods at the Old Town Flea Market is classic and diverse: antiques, vintage furniture, old records, used books, jewelry, clothing, toys, porcelain, glassware, curiosities. The exhibitors are a mix of private sellers and professional dealers. Whatever you're looking for, you'll find it — from East German toys to a 1920s Karlsruhe silver spoon.
The market is accessible, stroller-friendly, pet-friendly, and caters to all age groups — from seniors seeking old memories to students from RWTH Aachen furnishing their shared apartments. Families will find ample space on the market paths, and the Katschhof is close to cafés and restaurants (Pontstraße, Krämerstraße, Hof).
Aachen is located in the far west of North Rhine-Westphalia, at the tri-border area of Germany, Belgium, and the Netherlands. Charlemagne's palace made the city the first capital of a European empire, and the Charlemagne Prize keeps this tradition alive. Visitors to the Old Town Flea Market can combine their day with a visit to the Cathedral (free admission to the coronation cathedral), a stroll through Pontstraße, or a cup of Aachener Printen (local gingerbread).
