Three Days of Grand City Festival

The Altstadtfest Buxtehude is one of the largest city festivals in the Hamburg metropolitan region. For three days, the historic old town of the former Hanseatic city becomes a festival ground: stalls in the squares, stages in the alleys, carousels in the market square, and an open-air disco at prominent locations. The Altstadtverein Buxtehude e.V. organizes the festival with considerable voluntary commitment.

Over 70 Stalls and Specialties Mile

Over 70 stalls are spread throughout the old town: caterers from Buxtehude and the surrounding area, clubs, charitable organizations, manufacturers, and purveyors of regional specialties. The specialties mile, featuring new seasonal items, offers culinary diversity – from classic bratwurst stands and street food to vegetarian and vegan options, as well as specialties from the Altes Land region.

Ferris Wheel, Open-Air Disco, and Street Art

The Ferris wheel is one of the prominently visible festival attractions, offering views over Buxtehude's old town. The open-air disco attracts a young crowd in the evenings, creating a lively atmosphere. On Breite Straße, street artists, walk-acts, acrobats, comedians, and musicians transform the shopping street into an open stage.

Large Flea Market on Sunday

On Sunday, June 14th, 2026, from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM, a large flea market complements the Altstadtfest. Private and commercial vendors set up their stalls in the city center, offering antiques, vintage items, clothing, books, toys, and memorabilia. The flea market extends the festival day and attracts additional visitors.
