A week celebrating the cherry season in the Altes Land with a cherry market at Jork Town Hall
The Altländer Kirschenwoche traditionally falls at the beginning of the main cherry season at the end of June / beginning of July. For a week, the offerings of the Altes Land intensify: fruit farmers open their farms, farm cafés expand their menus with cherry specialties, manufacturers present juices, liqueurs, and jams, and organizers offer guided tours and experience formats. The Kirschenwoche is more than a festival – it is a tourist event that showcases the seasonal specialty of the Altes Land.
The highlight of the week is the Altländer Kirschmarkt on Sunday, July 5, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Around 80 to 100 artisans, florists, manufacturers, and fruit farmers present their products at and in Jork Town Hall. The assortment revolves around cherries – cherry juices, jams, liqueurs, preserves, cherry wood carvings, floral arrangements with cherry blossoms, and culinary specialties. Free admission.
A historical reenactment at the cherry market is the Kirschanlandung (cherry landing) with flatboats. Historic boats bring the fruit harvest – as in past centuries – via the waterways of the Altes Land to the market. This symbolic delivery recalls the time when cherries, apples, and pears from the Altes Land were primarily transported to the wholesale markets in Hamburg using flatboats.
While the cherry market on Sunday forms the center, events, farm festivals, tastings, and bike tours are spread throughout the week and across the entire Altes Land region – from Jork to Steinkirchen, from Estebrügge to Mittelnkirchen. The Altes Land Tourism Association coordinates the offerings and communicates the weekly program via the website.
The Kirschenwoche is designed as a tourist event that encompasses the entire Altes Land region. Fruit farmers offer picking activities, farm cafés present cherry specialties, and organizers lead bike tours through the orchards.
The Sunday market at Jork Town Hall is the central event. The traditional cherry landing by flatboats is both a custom and a photographic highlight.
The complete weekly program will be published by the Altes Land Tourism Association in June 2026. The structure:
