JZ Alte Post as Initiator
JZ Alte Post Emden is a well-known youth and cultural center in the city of Emden, serving for decades as a hub for alternative music, concerts, workshops, and subculture. The Alte Post Festival is an initiative of this center, in cooperation with the City of Emden, to provide an open-air stage for regional bands and to liven up the city center with live music.
Part 1 – Neuer Markt
The first festival day takes place on June 12, 2026, at the Neuer Markt. Over five hours, four regional bands will perform, covering a broad spectrum of popular music: Troubadour, Skatties, Janosh, and Sascha & die Heringe. The program includes pop, rock, indie, and ska elements. Free admission, limited seating.
Part 2 – Hahnsche Insel in front of the Kunsthalle
The second part takes place on September 4, 2026, in front of the Kunsthalle Emden on the Hahnsche Insel – a new open-air venue integrated into the Kultursommer 2026. Four more bands are planned here as well. The exact band names will be announced by the organizer in the run-up.
Significance for the Emden Music Scene
The festival is an important platform for the regional music scene and complements the established programs of Kulturevents Emden as well as the concert series Summer in the City and Kultursommer. Free admission and a central location make the festival an accessible meeting place for music enthusiasts of all generations.
Alte Post Festival — edition 2026
The two-part format allows the festival to extend over the summer months and be staged at two very differently characterized venues: The Neuer Markt as a lively city center stage and the Hahnsche Insel as an atmospheric open-air area in front of the Kunsthalle. Both locations are part of the expanded program lines of the Kultursommer Emden in 2026.
Detailed band names for Part 2 will be announced by the organizer in the summer. Current information is available through the official channels of the City of Emden, nwzonline.de, and emden-touristik.de.
