Allgäuer Freilichtbühne Altusried

In the heart of the Oberallgäu region, in the market town of Altusried, lies one of Germany's largest open-air stages. Supported by the local folk theatre association, the Allgäuer Freilichtbühne has made theatre history over decades – with grand open-air productions, a huge amateur ensemble, and a natural backdrop that has earned it the reputation of »Europe's most beautiful open-air stage«.

The programme alternates each season between major theatre and musical productions, as well as a summer festival with concerts and cabaret. 2026 will see the premiere of the musical »Das zauberhafte Land von Oz« – a family production with over 50 ensemble members, elaborate costumes, and spectacular lighting effects, created in collaboration with the Festspielhaus Neuschwanstein in Füssen and director Manfred Hertlein.

The summer festival runs alongside the main productions with concerts: In 2026, acts announced include the SWR Big Band & Max Mutzke, a Queen tribute show, Melissa Naschenweng, and Alexander Wurz & Die Egerländer Musikanten, as well as cabaret evenings like RUDELSINGEN, OIMARA, and »Opern auf Bayrisch« (Opera in Bavarian). Performances take place outdoors at Hauptstraße 18 in Altusried.
