Bavarian Volksfest in the Aldersbach Brewery's Monastery Courtyard
The Aldersbach Spring Festival takes place in the monastery courtyard of the historic Aldersbach Brewery Freiherr von Aretin in the district of Passau. The brewery originates from the former Cistercian Abbey of Aldersbach and is one of Bavaria's oldest breweries. Every year, the Spring Festival officially kicks off the Lower Bavarian Volksfest season.
The festival begins on Friday evening with the ceremonial entry of the clubs from the monastery garden into the beer tent, accompanied by a concert. Saturday focuses on the traditional maypole climbing with a live program in the beer tent. Sunday features a large flea market, a vintage car and motorcycle meet, and a free children's program in the baroque monastery garden. The event concludes on Monday with an evening program and the traditional maypole auction.
Aldersbach is located in the rolling hills of Lower Bavaria between Vilshofen and Pfarrkirchen. The brewery is now a family business and one of the municipality's largest employers. The brewery grounds include the historic monastery courtyard, a monastery shop, and the Bavarian Brewery Museum with a show brewery, in addition to the production facilities. Once a year, the Spring Festival turns the site into a stage for the region for four days.
