The Ahauser Schlosszauber is one of the most elegant and carefully curated Christmas markets in the Münsterland region — and at the same time one of the most atmospherically impressive: the venue is the magnificent Baroque Castle Ahaus, a former princely-bishop's residence from the 18th century. The Schlosszauber focuses on quality over quantity: around 100 carefully selected exhibitors, personally curated by the organizer Thörmann Messen GmbH. Mass-produced goods are excluded.

The Ice Rink — Schlosszauber Special Feature

One of the special features of the Ahauser Schlosszauber: a free ice rink in the castle courtyard. Ice skates can be brought along or rented affordably on site. Ice skating against a baroque backdrop — a unique sight and perfect family entertainment.

The Baroque Castle Ahaus

The Baroque Castle Ahaus was built between 1690 and 1720 under the Prince-Bishop of Münster as a summer residence. Today it houses a school (Technische Akademie) and is one of the most beautiful baroque castles in the Münsterland region. Architecturally, it is a magnificent three-winged complex with a castle park, decorative facade, and a dramatic staircase. During the Schlosszauber, the inner courtyard, the ground floor area, and the castle garden are used.

Dogs Welcome

Unlike many indoor markets, the Schlosszauber welcomes dogs on leashes — an important aspect for families with four-legged friends.

The market is accessible and navigable — ramps at the castle entrance, level paths in the courtyard, accessible toilets.

The Schlosszauber expects around 15,000 visitors over the weekend — a manageable number that does not dilute the exclusive concept.

Ahaus is a town with around 39,000 inhabitants in the district of Borken, in the western Münsterland region near the Dutch border. Known primarily for its Baroque Castle, a charming town center with half-timbered houses, and its location in the Münsterland park landscape. Those who visit the Schlosszauber should plan for a stroll through the town and a walk in the castle park.
