The Tabor Church on the Müggelsee

The Tabor Church Wilhelmshagen on Schönblicker Straße is a Protestant church in the easternmost part of Berlin, right next to the Brandenburg state border. It was built in the early 20th century when the then villa and suburban area of Wilhelmshagen-Rahnsdorf around the Müggelsee needed new churches. Today it belongs to the Protestant church community of Rahnsdorf-Schöneiche and forms the centre of the district.

Advent Market in the Churchyard

Once a year – traditionally on St. Nicholas' Day or the 2nd Saturday of Advent – the churchyard is transformed into an Advent market. The church communities of Rahnsdorf and Schöneiche organise the event together with helpers from the district. On the programme:

• Mulled wine, children's punch, Christmas cookies, bratwurst from the community stalls
• Advent bazaar with handmade gifts, candles, Advent decorations
• small stage programme with Advent song choir, brass band
• craft activities for children inside the church
• Advent service or concert in the church to conclude
• neighbourly gathering of the districts of Rahnsdorf, Wilhelmshagen, Hessenwinkel and Schöneiche

The 2025 edition ran on December 6, 2025, from 2 PM to 10 PM – unusually long for a churchyard market and with an evening programme until late at night.

Wilhelmshagen, Rahnsdorf and the Green East of Berlin

Wilhelmshagen and Rahnsdorf belong to the Treptow-Köpenick borough and are located on the easternmost edge of the city – between the Müggelsee lake, Müggelheim and the Brandenburg state border. The districts have a rural, almost village-like character, with single-family homes, old villas, and lots of forest. The Advent market at the Tabor Church is one of the few annual major events that bring the entire neighbourhood together.
