Christmas market in the historic stud farm at the foot of the Burgberg
The Lower Saxony State Stud maintains a traditional branch in Bad Harzburg, whose historic buildings are known far beyond the region. With Advent im Gestüt, the organizer uses this ensemble and opens the otherwise largely reserved courtyards and stable alleys to an audience that experiences both Christmas spirit and a special insight into the world of horse breeding.
Around 60 exhibitors are spread across the courtyards, stable alleys, and outbuildings. The spectrum ranges from high-quality handicrafts, jewelry, ceramics, and woodwork to Christmas decorations and floristry, as well as food producers offering sausages, cheese, chocolate, and liqueurs. The market deliberately focuses on quality and a well-developed assortment, so the selection clearly differs from standard market stalls.
A stage program in the inner courtyard connects the market stalls with musical accents. Choirs, brass ensembles, and smaller music sets perform on the two Advent weekends. The illumination of the historic half-timbered and brick buildings enhances the mood, complemented by the clatter of hooves and the occasional whinny of the stud horses.
The Advent im Gestüt takes place on the Saturdays and Sundays of the first and second Advent weekends. The opening hours from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. allow for both day trips and evening strolls with an illuminated backdrop.
Together with the Bad Harzburg Winter Meet on Bummelallee and several concerts in the spa town, Advent im Gestüt forms one of the densest Advent offerings in the Western Harz. Those seeking Christmas spirit and wanting to experience a special backdrop will find an unusual format here.
The 2026 edition is spread over the Saturdays and Sundays of the first two Advent weekends. This makes Advent im Gestüt a program item that can be enjoyed either as a day trip or as part of a weekend stay in Bad Harzburg.
The exhibitors are selected by the organizer and represent a deliberately high-quality assortment. This distinguishes the market from standard market formats and is aimed at visitors looking for gifts with a recognizable artisanal connection.
The detailed program for 2026 will be published by the organizer in late autumn. The structure follows the proven key points of previous years:
