Arts and crafts market around the historic Kasseler Langofen — a four-day pottery and Advent festival
Adendorf has been known for its pottery since the 19th century. The so-called Kasseler Langofen, a historically valuable wood-fired kiln, is still located in the town center, documenting the tradition of pottery craftsmanship in the area. The Martinsmarkt builds on this tradition and has been providing a platform for regional and supra-regional potters for years. The market is organized by the Association of Adendorf Traders (VAG), which cultivates the format and connects it with the town name Adendorf.
The focus is on pottery. Several Adendorf potteries open their workshops and present tableware, garden ceramics, sculptures, and special editions. In addition, exhibitors from all over northern Germany offer forged items, woodturning, jewelry, textiles, felt, leather goods, wooden toys, candles, and mosaic art. Demonstrations at the open kiln, spinning and weaving demonstrations, and hands-on activities for children complement the program. The quality of the exhibitors is deliberately focused on craftsmanship and unique handmade pieces.
The market deliberately takes place in the late afternoon and evening hours — from Thursday to Sunday, as darkness falls, the market square is illuminated by torches, fairy lights, and lit stalls. Mulled wine stands, bratwurst, soups, and sweet specialties expand the offerings. The Adendorfer Martinsmarkt is one of the most atmospheric regional Advent kick-offs in the Lüneburg district.
The Association of Adendorf Traders (VAG) organizes the market with the support of the municipality and local associations. Current information on the program, special demonstrations, and the list of exhibitors are published on the market's Facebook page and at www.toepferort-adendorf.de.
The intensive market phase begins with the opening evening on Thursday at dusk. Friday evening and the long Saturday, with market activities until 10 PM, are considered the busiest times. Sunday concludes the market in a more family-friendly and relaxed manner. Special demonstrations, hands-on activities for children, workshop visits at Adendorf potteries, and concerts are spread across all four days. The atmosphere remains consistently Advent-like and warm thanks to the lighting, fire pits, and numerous food stalls.
The detailed 2026 program will be published by the VAG in the fall. The structure follows the proven cornerstones of previous years:
