Hamburg's Big Hands-On Sports Festival
The Active City Festival is Hamburg's annual hands-on sports festival – in Wilhelmsburger Inselpark, around the Inselpark Arena. The organizer is Active City Hamburg, an initiative of the Ministry of the Interior and Sport, which aims to make Hamburg the "most active city in Germany". Admission and all hands-on activities are free.
Three Experience Zones
The festival is divided into three main zones: a contest zone with competitions, an entertainment zone with live music and sports talks, and a ParkSportInsel zone, where clubs and initiatives offer activities for all age groups. From young children to older adults, everyone can find sports to try out – from boxing to table tennis to inline hockey.
2026: First Time on a Sunday, First Time Unified
In 2026, the Active City Festival will take place on a Sunday for the first time – a deliberate step to attract more families. Main motto: "Active City Festival meets Unified Sports Festival – Moving More Together" – with a special emphasis on inclusive sports formats where athletes with and without disabilities compete together. The Unified Sports concept comes from Special Olympics and has been implemented in Hamburg for years.

Sunday in Wilhelmsburger Inselpark
The Active City Festival 2026 will take place on Sunday, September 13, from 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM in Wilhelmsburger Inselpark. Entrance Neuenfelder Straße. The change from Saturday to Sunday (first time in 2026) is intended to attract more families.
