Segeletz and Wusterhausen/Dosse — Historical Prignitz
Segeletz is a district of the municipality of Wusterhausen/Dosse in the Ostprignitz-Ruppin district, located in northern Brandenburg. Wusterhausen/Dosse itself is a small town with just under 6,000 inhabitants, situated on the Dosse river and Lake Klempow, with a long history as a market and administrative center. Segeletz is one of the incorporated villages — small, rural, with a strong sense of identity. The first mention of the place dates back to 1326 — thus, 2026 marks the 700th anniversary.
700 Years of Village History
Seven centuries is a long time. Over the centuries, Segeletz has experienced various rulers and lords — the Margraviate of Brandenburg, the Kingdom of Prussia, the German Reich, the GDR, and reunified Germany. The village never grew into a town, maintaining its rural character, and is today one of the many small villages in the Prignitz region that preserve their identity through festivals and clubs. The 700th-anniversary celebration is an occasion to make this long history visible — typically with a local chronicle, photo exhibition, historical lectures, and a large village festival.
Three Days of Celebration — July 3rd-5th, 2026
The anniversary date is set: July 3rd to 5th, 2026, from 10 AM to 8 PM daily. The detailed hourly program will be published by the municipality of Wusterhausen/Dosse and the Segeletz local heritage association a few weeks before the festival. For comparable Brandenburg village anniversaries, the following program framework can be expected: Opening on Friday with a ceremony, a speech by the mayor, and a historical reading; Saturday features the grand parade with historical costumes, floats, and club delegations, along with demonstration by the fire brigade and club programs; Sunday includes a festive church service, a morning pint, a family and children's program, and a relaxed conclusion. Catering will be provided by the Segeletz clubs on all three days.
Arrival and Stay
Wusterhausen/Dosse can be reached from Berlin in about 1.5 hours via RE 6 train (Wusterhausen station). By car: A 24 exit Kyritz or Neuruppin, then country roads. Those who wish to combine the festival weekend with a trip to the Prignitz region will find plenty of connecting activities: Ruppiner Land, Kyritz with its castle museum, Wittenberge, and the Stechlin-Ruppiner Land Nature Park. The 700th-anniversary celebration in Segeletz is one of the most remarkable Brandenburg anniversaries in 2026 — a unique occasion.
