Six and a half centuries of village history — Anniversary with parade and festival tent
When a Brandenburg village celebrates its 650th birthday, it's a very special occasion. Zobersdorf — today a district of the town of Mühlberg/Elbe in the Elbe-Elster district — was first mentioned in a document in 1376. 650 years later, on June 6 and 7, 2026, the entire village will come together to celebrate this long history. The anniversary festival will take place at the Zobersdorf sports field and is organized by the town of Mühlberg/Elbe, the district council, and volunteer helpers.
Zobersdorf originated in the High Middle Ages as a Slavic settlement on the edge of the present-day Elbe floodplain. Over the centuries, the village experienced all of Brandenburg's major upheavals: the Hussite Wars in the 15th century, the Thirty Years' War, the Napoleonic era, both World Wars, the GDR, and reunification. The anniversary celebrates not only the village but also the region, Lower Lusatia, on whose southwestern edge Zobersdorf lies — a few kilometers from the Saxony-Anhalt border.
Zobersdorf belongs to the town of Mühlberg/Elbe, one of the oldest towns in Lower Lusatia. Mühlberg is famous for the Battle of Mühlberg in 1547, in which Emperor Charles V defeated the Protestant princes — a battle that shaped European history. Those visiting the anniversary should also explore Mühlberg itself: the old monastery complex, the town church, and the impressive Renaissance castle.
What makes an anniversary festival in a small Brandenburg village so valuable: It is not staged but real. The helpers, the stalls, the performances — everything comes from the village community. The program will not be a Hollywood spectacle, but it will tell the story of the heart of the region — of farmers and craftsmen, of clubs and families who keep a village alive together.
The Anniversary Festival 650 Years Zobersdorf will be celebrated on June 6 and 7, 2026, at the Zobersdorf sports field. The organizers are the town of Mühlberg/Elbe, the Zobersdorf district council, and volunteers from the village community.
The festival concept combines a historical review with a classic village festival. An exhibition in the community center recounts the 650-year history of the village — from its first documented mention in 1376 to the present day. The highlight on Sunday is the historical parade through Zobersdorf, in which all generations of the village participate.
