Traditional cycle race on Whit Monday through the Borsum district of Harsum
The Pentecost Criterium in Borsum is one of the best-known road cycling races in the Hildesheim region. Several races in different categories are held on a circuit through the village. Characteristic of a classic criterium are the high speeds and atmosphere: short laps, frequent passes, and an engaged audience right at the trackside.
In a criterium, riders start in a closed group and complete a set number of laps. Points are awarded for lap wins, and the overall winner is usually the one with the highest score or the first place in the final sprint. The format is spectator-friendly because the field passes by multiple times during each race.
Borsum is one of the largest districts of the municipality of Harsum, located in the Hildesheim region northeast of the city of Hildesheim. With over 2,000 inhabitants, the village has a vibrant club scene, into which the Pentecost Criterium has been integrated for decades. The organizer is RSC Hildesheim, one of the oldest cycling clubs in the region, which manages the logistics of the race day with a large team of helpers.
The race day consists of several races, each featuring the respective categories. Schoolchildren usually open the program before the fast categories of licensed riders compete in a high-level criterium.
The exact detailed program for 2026, including start times for each category, will be published by RSC Hildesheim and the Lower Saxony Cycling Association before the event. The structure will follow the proven milestones of previous years: morning setup and road closure, morning and afternoon races for youth and hobby categories, afternoon races for women and men, followed by award ceremonies and dismantling.
The 61st edition takes place on Whit Monday, May 25, 2026. Road closures begin as early as 8:00 AM.
