About 48h Jenfeld
48h Jenfeld — edition 2026
The 2026 edition continues the established format: 48 hours of live music alternating at more than 17 locations, curated in a co-creative planning process. The acts come from Jenfeld itself as well as from the Hamburg region and the international diaspora of the Hanseatic city.
The focus of the 2026 edition will again be on the diversity of musical styles: school choirs and chamber ensembles alongside Hip-Hop crews and experimental electronic acts, folk musicians from the Ukrainian diaspora next to German jazz combos. The program will be gradually released on musik-aus-jenfeld.de throughout the summer months of 2026.

Jenfeld – the eastern district of Wandsbek
Jenfeld is located in the Wandsbek district, east of Wandsbeker Marktplatz, on the border with Rahlstedt and Tonndorf. With around 27,000 inhabitants, Jenfeld is one of the more densely populated districts of Wandsbek. The population is socially diverse, with a significant immigrant diaspora (primarily Turkish, Russian, and Ukrainian). This very diversity is reflected in the musical program of 48h Jenfeld.
17+ Locations, 50+ Acts
The festival takes place at over 17 locations in the district: courtyards of residential complexes, Jenfeld Castle Park, community centers, the Jenfeld community center, schools, churches, cafes. More than 50 musicians will perform – both residents of Jenfeld and guests from beyond the region. The 2025 edition featured 58 bands at 17 locations.
Genre-Open and Participatory
The booking is explicitly genre-open: Hip-Hop, Jazz, Classical, Pop, Folk, World Music, Choral and vocal ensembles, experimental electronic music. Concept of the organizing association "Musik aus Jenfeld": Acts can apply on their own initiative, "all ages and levels of professionalism" are welcome. In addition, there are workshops, dance performances, drum circles, and guided walks to the locations.
Ukrainian Musicians as Guests
In recent editions, groups of Ukrainian professional musicians who found refuge in Hamburg after Russia's war of aggression performed. This is symptomatic of Hamburg's neighborhood festival culture and particularly of 48h Jenfeld's diversity policy: Refugee artists are actively integrated into Hamburg's music scene.
Sister Format to 48h Wilhelmsburg
The format is modeled after 48h Wilhelmsburg: 48 hours of live music at decentralized locations, co-creative planning with the neighborhood, free admission. While 48h Wilhelmsburg operates on an Elbe island with over 50 locations, 48h Jenfeld is set up on a smaller scale (approx. 17 locations), but no less dense in its musical programming.
A Young Format in the Wandsbek District
In the Wandsbek district, 48h Jenfeld is one of the younger neighborhood festivals, alongside Wandsbeker Stadtteilfest, Poppenbüttler Sommerfest, and Saseler Heimatfest. Within the state of Hamburg, it fits into the small but qualitatively outstanding family of decentralized neighborhood music festivals (with 48h Wilhelmsburg being the largest).
