A Village Celebrates Its Fire Brigade
Wetzelsberg is a small district of the municipality of Stallwang in the Straubing-Bogen district, in the heart of the Bavarian Forest foothills. In 2026, the local Volunteer Fire Brigade is celebrating its 150th anniversary – a significant event for the entire village community, as the fire brigade is both the most important emergency organization and the social center here.
Fire Brigade Festival with Tradition
The celebration lasts for four days on the festival grounds at the Wetzelsberg sports field, with marquee operations and a large parade. Such founding festivals of Volunteer Fire Brigades are among the most vibrant traditional events in Lower Bavaria: patron associations, neighboring brigades, and clubs from the surrounding area march in the parade, while brass and popular music bands play in the marquee.

The anniversary festival is an expression of solidarity in the villages of the Bavarian Forest. Organized by the Wetzelsberg Volunteer Fire Brigade, it invites guests from all over the region to celebrate together and honors 150 years of voluntary commitment to fire protection.

From June 5 to 8, 2026, the Wetzelsberg Volunteer Fire Brigade will celebrate its 150th anniversary on the festival grounds at the sports field in the Stallwang district of Wetzelsberg. The four-day festival includes marquee operations and a parade; festival operations run daily from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m.
Anniversary festivals like these in the Bavarian Forest follow a proven schedule: festival kickoff on Friday evening, association and festival evenings with brass music in the marquee, on Sunday the festival service and the grand parade with the patron association, neighboring brigades, and local clubs, and on Monday a relaxed conclusion.
