Anniversary celebration for the 125th anniversary of the Volunteer Fire Brigade in the Lamspringe district of Sehlem
With its approximately 280 members, the Volunteer Fire Brigade Sehlem is one of the larger brigades in the southern Hildesheim region. As a hub fire brigade, it possesses the appropriate vehicles and special equipment, which are also called upon for operations beyond the municipal borders. Its youth fire brigade ensures a pipeline of new recruits, and the brigade's own music group accompanies numerous events in the region.
When a volunteer fire brigade reaches 125 years of age, it looks back on generations of men and women who have dedicated their free time to protecting human lives, property, and the environment. The anniversary celebration thanks these active and former members, acknowledges the support of their families, and publicly demonstrates the importance of volunteerism in fire protection.
The district of Sehlem is part of the Klosterdorf (monastery village) community of Lamspringe, situated at the transition from the Hildesheimer Wald (Hildesheim Forest) to the Leinebergland. The intact club culture, which includes sports clubs, music groups, marksmen's associations, and especially the fire brigade, shapes the image of the municipality. The FFW Sehlem's 2026 anniversary celebration is a highlight in the event calendar and also offers visitors from outside an opportunity to experience a typical Lower Saxon festival day.
The focus will initially be on the official ceremony, honoring the brigade's history and recognizing long-serving members. Throughout the day, active members will showcase their operational equipment in demonstrations; children and young people from the youth fire brigade will present what they have learned.
The detailed program for 2026 will be published by the FFW Sehlem before the event. The structure follows the proven cornerstones of major brigade anniversaries: festive service or ceremony, vehicle and equipment show, demonstrations, musical contributions from the fire brigade band and guest bands, marquee with catering, and dancing in the evening.
The main program for the 125th anniversary will take place on June 27, 2026. There may be other accompanying dates during the anniversary year.
