100 Years of Volunteer Fire Brigade

Since its founding in 1926, the Freden Volunteer Fire Brigade has been one of the most important pillars of safety and civic engagement in the Freden municipality. For a century, generations of women and men have dedicated their free time to firefighting, technical assistance, flood protection, and fire safety education. The 100th anniversary is therefore not just a club celebration, but a major community event for the entire municipality.

Four Days of Festival Program

From June 19th to 22nd, 2026, a large festival tent will be erected in Freden, hosting official ceremonies, stage programs, and dance evenings. The tent will be complemented by an extensive outdoor area featuring fire brigade demonstrations, a performance show of historical and current emergency vehicles, hands-on activities for children, and a parade celebrating the anniversary through the town.

Official Ceremony and Celebration

The ceremonial core is the Festkommers (official ceremony): an official event with speeches, honors for deserving comrades, and greetings from politicians and friendly fire brigades. Representatives from the Hildesheim district, the Freden municipality, neighboring fire brigades, and the state fire brigade are expected. The Festkommers also provides an opportunity to honor the historical development of the FFW Freden and to highlight future tasks.

Parade and Performance Show

A grand parade through Freden will bring fire brigades from the Hildesheim district and the wider region, as well as music bands and associations, to the streets. The performance show on the festival grounds will showcase emergency vehicles, equipment, and demonstrations from the various fields of modern fire brigade work: firefighting, technical assistance, high-altitude rescue, and respiratory protection. The youngest generations – the youth fire brigade and the children's fire brigade – will be in focus, as will the active emergency responders.

Family Program

There is an extensive program for children and families: a water spray wall for hands-on extinguishing, a bouncy castle, face painting, vehicle tours, and a children's disco. Fire safety education will be conveyed in a playful manner, giving the festival an important preventive function.

Sociability in the Festival Tent

In the evenings, the festival tent transforms into the convivial center of the anniversary. Dance evenings with live bands and DJs attract visitors from Freden and neighboring towns, creating an atmosphere where a century of club history can be duly celebrated.
