100 Years of the Sandersdorf Fire Brigade

A Century of Fire Protection in the Bitterfeld Region

Sandersdorf is now a district of the town of Sandersdorf-Brehna, founded in 2010, in the Anhalt-Bitterfeld district (AGS 15082), state of Saxony-Anhalt. A region between Halle (Saale) and Bitterfeld-Wolfen, characterized by the chemical industry and a strong club life in its individual districts. The Sandersdorf Volunteer Fire Brigade was founded in 1926 – right in the middle of the Weimar Republic – and has experienced four political systems. In 2026, the time has come: 100 years of association history, 100 years of fire protection, 100 years of voluntary service.

The Anniversary Celebration on August 28

The town of Sandersdorf-Brehna announces the anniversary celebration for Friday, August 28, 2026, from 6 PM to midnight. The exact program will be announced by the brigade in the weeks leading up to the event – typical for such anniversaries are a ceremonial act with honors for long-serving comrades, live music in the festival tent, demonstrations of historical firefighting equipment, food and drinks from the association, and meetings with fire brigades from the region. The brigade itself puts it this way: "The Sandersdorf Fire Brigade turns 100! And we want to celebrate it heartily with you!"

For decades, the region was the center of GDR lignite mining and the chemical industry – today it is the Bitterfeld-Wolfen Industrial Park with Goitzsche Lake and renatured open-cast mining landscapes. The anniversary of the Sandersdorf Fire Brigade is an occasion to honor a piece of association history that has endured through all political upheavals.
