Brodowin — the Eco-Village of the Schorfheide

Brodowin is a district of the municipality of Chorin in the Barnim district, located on the edge of the Schorfheide-Chorin Biosphere Reserve and not far from Lake Werbellin. In the 1990s, Brodowin farmers established a comprehensive Demeter organic farm (Ökodorf Brodowin GmbH) and made the name Brodowin known throughout the region: organic farming, farm dairy, farm cheese dairy, farm holidays. Today, the village attracts thousands of day-trippers from Berlin annually, who buy cheese samples and stroll around the farm. In addition, the typical village structure continues — with clubs, a church, and its own fire brigade, which celebrates its 100th anniversary in 2026.

100 Years of the Brodowin Volunteer Fire Brigade

The Brodowin Volunteer Fire Brigade was founded in 1926 — at a time when rural firefighting in Brandenburg was being reorganized. Over a century of volunteer work, many generations of firefighters, countless operations from small fires to storm damage in the biosphere reserve. The anniversary will be celebrated in 2026 — as both a brigade festival and a village festival. The program follows the classic format: a parade through the village, equipment exhibition, demonstration drills, catering, and an evening dance.

The Village Festival — Program Components

The event calendar of the Amt Britz-Chorin-Oderberg lists the fire brigade village festival for Saturday, June 13, 2026. The detailed hourly program will be published by the local association and the brigade in the weeks before the festival. As with comparable brigade anniversaries in Brandenburg, one can expect an opening in the morning with a celebratory speech by the brigade leader and the mayor, a parade through Brodowin, demonstration drills by the brigade and the youth fire brigade, an exhibition of historical and modern fire brigade equipment, a children's program with a bouncy castle and game stations, catering with bratwurst and beer, and in the evening, a long marquee program with live music or a DJ.

Getting There and Combining with the Eco-Village

Brodowin is accessible by car via the A 11 and the L 232 (approx. 1:15 hours from Berlin). By train: RE 3 to Chorin or Britz, then bus or a short car ride. Those who combine the brigade anniversary with a visit to the eco-village have the perfect day trip: farm café in the morning, cheese tasting at the farm shop, village festival in the afternoon and evening, hike by Lake Werbellin the next day.
